The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has declined to approve daily allowances (DA) for officers and staff of the Inland Revenue.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) recently issued instructions to its field formations, following directives from the Wafaqi Mohtasib (Ombudsman)’s Secretariat, regarding the travel and daily allowances (TA/DA) of Inland Revenue officials. These officials are currently deployed at various factories across different sectors, as part of the supervised clearance system, to monitor and prevent evasion of excise and sales tax.

Upon careful review, in consultation with the Finance Division (Regulations Wing), the FBR concluded that during their assignment under Section 40-B of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, the officers and staff of the Inland Revenue Field Formations are not eligible to receive daily allowances (DA). This decision is specific to the period they are posted under this particular section of the Sales Tax Act.
